Linux Chix LA:

Linux Chix LA had adorable penguins at their booth. The penguins had feet and could be walked on a ‘leash’ by children or adults. Penguins were a big hit with adults and children alike.

Another penguin brought by Linux Chix LA: a penguin speaker that flops its wings to the music. Try listening to Beethoven with little wings flopping – very entertaining.

Unity3D sent their people to present new features of next Unity3D software release. We had cap of 30 people due to limited conference room space, otherwise we would love to invite more Unity3D users in Los Angeles area.

PyLadies 501(c)(3) is an educational non-profit dedicated to programming in Python.

Judging in Process – there were so many amazing student games that it was really hard not to give prizes to every student team. The game that captured the hearts of all judges was ‘Safari Rescue’. It was unforgettable how the animals that did not get rescued in the end of the game cried! The style of the winning game was an old arcade look. The game presented a stimulating challenge to the judges and also a great concept, developed by a group of 8 students.
Many thanks to Chris Osland from USC who was one of the organizers and his team members for their tireless work around the clock to make it one of the best student competitions of the year.

Once of the most impressive talks that was given at Unity3D Conference was the topic of educational games used in medicine – training doctors and nurses in 3D environment. In a virtual hospital room very action that is taken by doctor or nurse is evaluated and there are multiple parameters involved, for example, how quickly a doctor or a nurse calculates which step to take. On the photo below you can see a virtual surgery room and a team of doctors and nurses trying to save a patient:
